Maud Street construction and diversion for cycling route to university
Construction of the Maud Street crossing has recently commenced.
The refuge island on Maud St, Waratah West, has been removed, with construction having started on a signalised crossing at the junction of Maud St, Vera St and Prince St. This junction is part of the R6 City to Uni cycleway route.

Below is a map of a diversion route one could use while construction is underway. Details on the planned changes are available at https://newcastle.nsw.gov.au/about-us/news-and-updates/projects-and-works/waratah-maud-street-road-safety-improvements
