Possible path from New Lambton urban centre to John Hunter Hospital

A suggestion would be to take Portland place which is a quiet street and using this to connect to Curzon Road. A paved path can be placed where the green mark is (currently gravel surface). Curzon road is a narrow road which would benefit from being made into a quiet way. Some ideas are making it a 40kmph zone, with raised entry thresholds, and painted bicycle logos. You can cross to the hospital at the traffic lights in red. However, this would benefit from being a bicycle signalized crossing.

Continuity challenge

In the vicinity of Alma Rd and the New Lambton urban centre, there is a definite challenge in how to make the quietways have good continuity from one area to another.

Lambton Lane is a good quietway from the northwest, but terminates at Alma Rd with only footpath access on either side. Regent St to the left is for more confident riders because it does have more vehicle traffic, and similarly Lambton Rd to the righthand side of this image also experiences more traffic volume.

We are interested to hear your ideas and suggestions for this one, particularly if you are a local.

I would suggest connecting to the south side of Alma road using the bike lane/one way road on Tauranga Road, then crossing at the traffic lights (in red). It would help to signalize the traffic light crossing with a bicycle sign. This then takes you to the lane beside the old fire station which connects to Alma lane.
